🍽️ Salisbury Steak with Brown Gravy

🛒 Ingredients

Steaks

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp Worcestershire sauce

Gravy

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Optional: sautéed mushrooms or onions

🔥 Instructions

  1. Mix the steak ingredients: In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, onion, egg, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce.
  2. Shape into 4 oval patties.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium heat with a little oil or butter. Brown patties 3–4 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, make the gravy:
    • Melt butter and whisk in flour; cook 1–2 minutes until lightly browned.
    • Slowly whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce; simmer until thickened.
  5. Return patties to the skillet, cover, and simmer 10–15 minutes until cooked through.
  6. Serve hot with gravy spooned over the top.

  • Mushroom gravy: Sauté ½ cup sliced mushrooms with onions before adding flour.
  • Make ahead: Patties can be browned ahead and stored in fridge; finish in gravy later.
