Ohhh yes—Swedish meatballs are pure comfort food magic 🇸🇪✨ Creamy, savory, and perfect over mashed potatoes or noodles.

🇸🇪 Swedish Meatballs (Classic)

⏱️ Time

  • Prep: 20 min
  • Cook: 25 min

🛒 Ingredients

Meatballs

  • 1 lb ground beef (or ½ beef, ½ pork for best flavor)
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely grated
  • 1 egg
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp allspice
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp chopped parsley (optional)
  • 2 tbsp butter or oil (for cooking)

Gravy

  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt & pepper to taste

🔥 Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine breadcrumbs and milk. Let soak 2 minutes.
  2. Add onion, egg, seasonings, parsley, and meat. Mix gently.
  3. Roll into 1–1½ inch meatballs.
  4. Heat butter/oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  5. Brown meatballs in batches until golden; remove and set aside.
  6. In the same skillet, melt butter for gravy. Whisk in flour; cook 1 minute.
  7. Slowly whisk in beef broth until smooth.
  8. Stir in cream and Worcestershire; simmer until thickened.
  9. Return meatballs to skillet and simmer 10 minutes, until cooked through.
  10. Taste and adjust seasoning.

🍽️ Serving Ideas

  • Mashed potatoes (classic)
  • Egg noodles
  • Rice
  • With lingonberry jam or cranberry sauce (trust me)

🌟 Tips & Variations

  • Baked meatballs: Bake at 400°F for 18–20 minutes, then add to gravy.
  • Lighter: Use half-and-half instead of cream.
  • IKEA-style: Add 1 tsp Dijon mustard to the gravy.

Cozy, creamy, and dangerously easy to keep eating 😄
