🧂 Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup cold butter (cubed)
  • 2/3 cup milk (plus a little extra if needed)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash, optional)

🍳 Instructions

1. Preheat oven
Set to 200°C (400°F). Line a baking tray.

2. Mix dry ingredients
In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

3. Cut in butter
Rub cold butter into flour until it looks like breadcrumbs (this is key for flaky scones).

4. Add liquid
Pour in milk (and vanilla if using). Mix gently until a soft dough forms. Don’t overmix.

5. Shape dough
Turn onto a floured surface. Pat gently to about 2 cm (¾ inch) thick. Cut into rounds or triangles.

6. Bake
Place on tray. Brush tops with a little milk or egg wash. Bake 12–15 minutes until golden.

🍽️ How to serve

  • Classic combo: jam + clotted cream
  • Or butter and honey
  • Best eaten warm 🫶

🔥 Tips

  • Keep butter cold for flaky texture
  • Don’t overwork the dough or scones get tough
  • For sweeter scones, add raisins or chocolate chips
  • For savory version, add cheese + herbs

If you want, I can also give you:

  • 🍓 Fruit scones (like British bakery style)
  • 🧀 Cheese scones
  • ☕ Starbucks-style copycat scones
