Coca-cola cake

Posted on April 20, 2026 by Admin

Coca-Cola cake is a soft, moist chocolate cake where Coca-Cola is used in both the batter and frosting. It sounds unusual, but the soda adds moisture, a light caramel note, and a super tender texture.

🍫🥤 Coca-Cola Cake (Classic Southern Style)

Ingredients

Cake

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup Coca-Cola
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk (or milk + 1 tsp lemon juice)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Frosting

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/3 cup Coca-Cola
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

🍳 Instructions

1. Make the cake base

  • Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F)
  • In a saucepan, melt butter with Coca-Cola and cocoa powder
  • Bring just to a gentle mix (don’t boil too hard), then remove from heat

2. Mix batter

  • In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt
  • Pour in warm Coke mixture
  • Add buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla
  • Mix until smooth (don’t overbeat)

3. Bake

  • Pour into greased baking pan
  • Bake for 30–35 minutes
  • Check with toothpick (should come out clean)

4. Make frosting

  • In a saucepan, melt butter with cocoa powder and Coca-Cola
  • Remove from heat and whisk in powdered sugar and vanilla
  • Stir until smooth and glossy

5. Finish

  • Pour frosting over warm cake
  • Let it soak and set into a fudgy top layer

💡 Tips for best results

  • Frost the cake while it’s still warm for a glossy finish
  • Don’t reduce sugar too much—it balances the cocoa and Coke
  • Use real Coca-Cola (not diet) for proper texture and flavor
  • Buttermilk keeps the cake soft and fluffy

🍽️ Serving ideas

  • With vanilla ice cream
  • With whipped cream
  • As a party sheet cake dessert

🔥 Variations

  • Extra chocolate: add chocolate chips in batter
  • Nutty version: walnuts or pecans on top
  • Cupcake version: same batter baked in muffin tins
  • Spicy twist: tiny pinch of cinnamon or chili powder for depth

If you want, I can give you a fudgy Coca-Cola brownie version, a no-butter lighter recipe, or a restaurant-style plated dessert version.
