Ground beef and potatoes

Posted on April 20, 2026 by Admin

Ground beef and potatoes is a simple, hearty dish—basically a savory skillet meal that’s filling, budget-friendly, and easy to customize.

🥩🥔 Ground Beef and Potatoes (One-Pan Recipe)

Ingredients

  • 500g ground beef
  • 3–4 medium potatoes (peeled & diced small cubes)
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 2–3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1–1.5 tsp salt (to taste)
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika or chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric (optional)
  • 2–3 tbsp tomato paste or 1 chopped tomato
  • 1/2 cup water (as needed)
  • Fresh coriander or parsley (for garnish)

🍳 Instructions

1. Cook potatoes

  • Heat oil in a pan
  • Add diced potatoes and fry until lightly golden and almost tender
  • Remove and set aside

2. Cook beef base

  • In the same pan, add onion and sauté until soft
  • Add garlic and cook 30 seconds
  • Add ground beef and break it up while cooking
  • Cook until browned and moisture reduces

3. Add spices & flavor

  • Add salt, pepper, paprika, cumin, turmeric
  • Stir well so beef is fully coated

4. Add tomatoes

  • Mix in tomato paste or chopped tomato
  • Cook until oil slightly separates and flavor deepens

5. Combine potatoes

  • Add fried potatoes back into the pan
  • Add a splash of water
  • Cover and simmer 10–15 minutes until potatoes are fully soft and flavors blend

6. Finish

  • Adjust salt and spice
  • Garnish with fresh coriander

💡 Tips

  • Cut potatoes small so they cook evenly with beef
  • Frying potatoes first prevents them from getting mushy
  • Let it simmer covered for best flavor absorption
  • Add chili flakes or green chilies for extra heat

🍽️ Serving ideas

  • With roti, naan, or paratha
  • Over rice like a quick bowl meal
  • Stuffed in wraps or sandwiches

If you want, I can also give you a spicy Pakistani-style version, a cheesy baked casserole version, or a quick 20-minute one-pan shortcut.
