Ingredients
Dry
- 1¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups sugar
- ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
Wet
- 1 cup milk
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup hot water or hot coffee (makes it extra chocolatey)
Instructions
1️⃣ Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch pans or one 9×13 pan.
2️⃣ In a large bowl, whisk dry ingredients.
3️⃣ Add milk, oil, eggs, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.
4️⃣ Stir in hot water/coffee (batter will be thin—normal!).
5️⃣ Pour into pans and bake:
- 30–35 min (round pans)
- 35–40 min (9×13)
6️⃣ Cool completely before frosting.

- ½ cup butter, softened
- ⅔ cup cocoa powder
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- ⅓ cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
