Apple cake

Posted on April 6, 2026 by Admin

Ah, moving from pie to cake—delicious choice! 🍎🎂

Apple cake is different from apple pie in texture: it’s softer, spongier, often spiced, and sometimes includes chunks of apple or grated apple baked right into the batter. Here’s a quick breakdown:

Key Features:

  • Texture: Moist, tender, often with a slightly dense crumb.
  • Flavors: Cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla; sometimes walnuts or raisins.
  • Variations:
    • Upside-down apple cake – caramelized apples on the bottom.
    • Bundt or loaf apple cake – perfect for slicing.
    • Apple cinnamon crumb cake – topped with a sweet streusel.

Quick Homemade Apple Cake Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 cups peeled, chopped apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch pan.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  5. Fold in chopped apples.
  6. Pour batter into the pan and bake for 40–50 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let cool, optionally dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with glaze.

🍎 Tip: For extra moisture, toss the apple chunks in a little lemon juice and sugar before adding to the batter.

If you want, I can also give a super-moist, one-bowl apple cake recipe that’s almost foolproof—it’s my personal favorite. Do you want that version?
