Posted on April 5, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a soft, sweet bakery-style recipe for Tutti Frutti Buns—light, fluffy buns filled with colorful candied fruit, perfect for tea time 🍞✨

🍞 Tutti Frutti Buns

Ingredients (makes 8–10 buns)

For the dough:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 1/4 tsp (1 packet) instant yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 2 tbsp butter (softened)
  • 1 egg

Add-ins:

  • 1/2 cup tutti frutti (candied fruit bits)

For brushing:

  • 1 tbsp milk or egg wash

Instructions

1. Activate yeast (if needed)

  • Mix warm water, milk, sugar, and yeast.
  • Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy (skip if using instant yeast).

2. Make the dough

  • In a bowl, combine flour and salt.
  • Add yeast mixture, egg, and butter.
  • Knead for 8–10 minutes until soft and elastic.

3. Add tutti frutti

  • Gently knead in the tutti frutti until evenly distributed.

4. First rise

  • Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–1.5 hours until doubled.

5. Shape buns

  • Divide into equal portions and shape into smooth balls.
  • Place on a lined baking tray with space between them.

6. Second rise

  • Cover and let rise again for 30–40 minutes until puffy.

7. Bake

  • Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F)
  • Brush tops with milk or egg wash
  • Bake for 15–20 minutes until golden

8. Finish

  • Brush with a little butter after baking for extra softness

🔥 Tips

  • Don’t overheat milk—warm (not hot) helps yeast rise properly
  • Knead well for soft, bakery-style texture
  • Add a little vanilla essence for extra aroma
  • Store in an airtight container to keep soft

🍯 Optional Glaze

  • Mix 2 tbsp sugar + 2 tbsp water, heat lightly
  • Brush over hot buns for a shiny finish
