Here’s a classic Southern recipe for Fried Green Tomatoes—crispy, tangy, and perfect as an appetizer or side:


🍅 Fried Green Tomatoes

🔹 Ingredients

  • 3–4 firm green tomatoes
  • Salt & black pepper
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cornmeal (or a mix of cornmeal + flour)
  • 1 tsp paprika (optional)
  • 1–2 eggs
  • ¼ cup milk
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

🔹 Instructions

1. Prep the tomatoes

  • Slice tomatoes into ½-inch thick rounds
  • Lightly sprinkle both sides with salt and pepper

2. Set up dredging

  • Plate 1: Flour (season with salt, pepper, paprika)
  • Plate 2: Beaten eggs + milk
  • Plate 3: Cornmeal

3. Coat the slices

  • Dredge tomato slices in flour → egg mixture → cornmeal
  • Shake off excess

4. Fry

  • Heat ¼–½ inch oil in a skillet over medium heat
  • Fry tomatoes in batches 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown
  • Transfer to paper towels to drain

5. Serve

  • Serve warm as-is or with ranch, spicy mayo, or a remoulade

🔹 Tips

  • Use firm, tart green tomatoes—ripe tomatoes won’t hold up
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan to keep them crispy
  • For extra flavor, mix garlic powder, cayenne, or Parmesan into the cornmeal
