Ahh, comfort food royalty 🥧
Here’s a classic Shepherd’s Pie — cozy, savory, and perfect for feeding people you like.

🥧 Shepherd’s Pie (Traditional Style)

Technically, shepherd’s pie = lamb. If you use beef, it’s cottage pie — still delicious.

Ingredients

Meat filling

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground lamb (or beef)
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup peas
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 1 cup beef or lamb broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp thyme or rosemary
  • Salt & pepper
  • 2 tbsp oil or butter

Mashed potato topping

  • 2 lb (900 g) potatoes, peeled & chopped
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • ½ cup milk (warm)
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

1️⃣ Make the mashed potatoes

  • Boil potatoes in salted water until tender.
  • Mash with butter, milk, and salt. Set aside.

2️⃣ Cook the filling

  • Heat oil in a pan.
  • Add onion and carrots; cook until soft.
  • Add garlic, cook 30 seconds.
  • Add ground meat; brown well.
  • Stir in tomato paste and flour.
  • Pour in broth, Worcestershire, herbs, salt & pepper.
  • Simmer 10 minutes until thick.
  • Stir in peas.

3️⃣ Assemble

  • Preheat oven to 200°C / 400°F.
  • Spread meat filling in a baking dish.
  • Spoon mashed potatoes on top and fork the surface.

4️⃣ Bake

  • Bake 20–25 minutes until bubbling and golden.
  • Optional: broil 2–3 minutes for crispy peaks.

🔥 Tips & Variations

  • Add cheese to the potatoes for extra richness
  • Mix in corn or mushrooms
  • Make ahead & reheat beautifully
  • Freeze unbaked for busy days

If you want a quick skillet version, vegetarian lentil version, or Gordon Ramsay–style upgrade, I’ve got you 😏
