Patty melt

Here’s a classic Patty Melt recipe—a perfect combo of a burger and a grilled cheese sandwich:

🥪 Patty Melt

Ingredients (serves 2):

  • 8 oz ground beef (or two 4-oz patties)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 slices rye bread (or your favorite sandwich bread)
  • 4 slices Swiss or cheddar cheese
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for grilling)

Instructions:

  1. Cook the onions:
    • In a skillet, melt 1 tablespoon butter over medium heat.
    • Sauté onions until caramelized, about 10–15 minutes. Set aside.
  2. Cook the patties:
    • Season ground beef with salt and pepper.
    • Form into thin patties and cook in the skillet 3–4 minutes per side until browned and cooked through.
  3. Assemble the sandwich:
    • Place cheese on the bread slices.
    • Layer cooked patty and caramelized onions on top.
    • Close the sandwich with the second slice of bread.
  4. Grill the patty melt:
    • Heat remaining butter in the skillet.
    • Grill sandwich 3–4 minutes per side until bread is golden and cheese is melted.
  5. Serve:
    • Slice in half and enjoy warm.

💡 Tips:

  • Use thin patties to ensure the sandwich isn’t too thick.
  • Rye bread gives the classic flavor, but sourdough works too.
  • Add a touch of mustard for extra tang.

If you want, I can give a restaurant-style patty melt recipe with thousand island dressing for an extra savory twist.
