Monte Cristo sandwich

Posted on March 30, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a classic Monte Cristo Sandwich recipe—crispy, cheesy, and sweet-savory perfection:

🥪 Monte Cristo Sandwich

🧾 Ingredients (makes 2–3 sandwiches):

  • 6 slices of bread (white, brioche, or sandwich bread)
  • 4 slices ham
  • 4 slices turkey (optional, for classic flavor)
  • 4 slices Swiss or Gruyère cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 1 tbsp butter (for frying)
  • Powdered sugar (for sprinkling)
  • Optional: raspberry or strawberry jam (for serving)

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Assemble the sandwiches
    • Layer ham, turkey, and cheese between two slices of bread.
    • Optional: Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard inside.
  2. Prepare egg coating
    • In a shallow bowl, whisk eggs, milk, and a pinch of salt.
  3. Dip sandwiches
    • Dip each sandwich into the egg mixture, coating both sides evenly.
  4. Cook
    • Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat.
    • Fry sandwiches 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and cheese is melted.
    • Press lightly with a spatula for even cooking.
  5. Serve
    • Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve with fruit jam on the side.

🔥 Tips & Variations:

  • Oven version: Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 10–12 minutes per side for a less greasy option.
  • Extra crispy: Use a mix of butter and oil in the pan.
  • Savory twist: Skip powdered sugar and jam, add mustard or pickles for a deli-style sandwich.
  • Make ahead: Assemble and refrigerate, then fry just before serving.

I can also give you a deep-fried, restaurant-style Monte Cristo version with extra gooey cheese and a crispier coating if you want.

Do you want me to share that version?
