Slow cooker potato chunks, butter, and sliced onions

Posted on March 26, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a simple and flavorful way to make slow cooker potato chunks with butter and sliced onions — soft, savory, and perfect as a side dish:

Ingredients:

  • 2–3 lbs (900–1350 g) potatoes, cut into chunks
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 3–4 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon garlic powder or fresh minced garlic
  • Optional: ½ cup chicken or vegetable broth for extra moisture

Instructions:

  1. Prep ingredients:
    • Wash and cut potatoes into evenly sized chunks. Slice the onion.
  2. Layer in slow cooker:
    • Place potato chunks in the slow cooker. Scatter sliced onions on top. Dot with butter and season with salt, pepper, and optional garlic.
  3. Cook:
    • Cover and cook on Low for 6–7 hours or High for 3–4 hours, until potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.
    • If using broth, pour it in before cooking to keep potatoes extra moist.
  4. Optional finishing:
    • For a golden, slightly crispy top, transfer potatoes to a baking sheet and broil for 5–7 minutes.
    • Garnish with fresh herbs like parsley or chives before serving.

This dish is very flexible — you can add carrots, bell peppers, or even a little cheese at the end for variation.

If you want, I can also give a super-easy 2-ingredient version that’s basically “buttered potatoes” and almost hands-off. Do you want me to do that?
