Cabbage in a Crock Pot

Posted on March 23, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a simple and flavorful way to make cabbage in a Crock Pot (slow cooker)—tender, savory, and perfect as a side dish.

Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

  • 1 medium head of cabbage, chopped
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 2–3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • ½ cup chicken broth (or vegetable broth)
  • 1 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika (optional)
  • Optional: 4–6 slices bacon, chopped

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients:
Chop cabbage into bite-sized pieces and slice the onion.
  2. Layer in Slow Cooker:
    • Add cabbage, onion, and garlic to the Crock Pot.
    • Pour in broth and sprinkle with salt, pepper, and paprika.
    • Dot with butter on top.
    • If using bacon, sprinkle it over everything.
  3. Cook:
    • Cook on low for 6–7 hours or high for 3–4 hours, until cabbage is tender.
  4. Stir and Serve:
    • Stir before serving so the flavors combine well.
    • Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

💡 Tips:

  • Add sliced smoked sausage for a heartier meal.
  • A splash of apple cider vinegar at the end brightens the flavor.
  • For a slightly sweet version, add 1–2 teaspoons of brown sugar.

If you want, I can also give a German-style sweet and sour cabbage or a low-carb keto version with sausage.
